Innovators Network Foundation IP Fellows Featured in the CPI March Edition of the TechREG Chronicle

The most recent issue of the Competition Policy International (CPI) TechReg Chronicle features Standard-Essential Patents: Trends & Strategies. This issue invited standard-essential patent (SEP) experts, including our very own intellectual property fellows, to investigate and provide insights on the current SEP licensing landscape and its impact on competition and innovation.

Michael Carrier co-authored the piece Standards Organizations: The Missing Link in FRAND Evasion to highlight the significant but often overlooked role of a standards organization in reinforcing a SEP holders’ voluntary FRAND commitment.

Enrico Bonadio looked at a new practice by UK courts in SEP licensing disputes that evaluates if an alleged SEP infringer’s request for an interim license is an appropriate solution while the court considers a final FRAND determination. This piece is aptly named FRAND Interim Licenses in Standard-Essential Patent Disputes.

Jim Beverage uses his technical expertise in standards and experience with SEP-incorporating innovators to highlight a new wave of SEP licensing abuse in video codec standards in his piece The Rising Importance of Video Codec SEPs in a Data-Driven World.
